Taree Old Bar SLSC hosts the 2023 LNC Branch Carnival

Lower North Coast Surf Life Saving Branch Carnival

Gear pick up will not be available during pool proficiency day. Gear can be collected from the Taree Old Bar Surf Lifesaving Club on:

* Thursday 12 October 3:30-6:00pm
* Wednesday 18 October 3:30-6:00pm

Nippers Gear Collection

With only two more sessions to go this season, it is time to do some pre-planning for next season (start date approx October 2023).

Next season will see all Nippers volunteer positions available and open. 

Please note that without volunteers putting up their hand for these roles, Nippers will not be able to go ahead next season. 

Roles available include:

* JAC (Junior Activities Coordinator)
* Age Managers
* Water Safety
* Water Safety Coordinator
* BBQ Coordinator 

Other than water safety, none of the above roles require any special skills .. you will not be required to go in the water and anyone can do it. 

Nippers is an important activity within our community. It teaches our kids skills that might one day save their life (or someone else’s). It is an important way for the surf club to train new future lifeguards. And it’s a great way to have safe fun and fitness in the sun. 

All nippers families are invited and strongly encouraged to attend a planning meeting after nippers next week - 11.30 26th Feb at the Surfclub.

At this meeting we will be looking to fill the above roles. If the positions can be filled now it will enable the new volunteers to be thoroughly briefed before the new season commences. Also welcome at the meeting are suggestions, questions and ideas.

**Black Head Fast 5’s**

The crew at Black Head SLSC have just announced they will be holding a Fast 5’s carnival for competitors U8 through to U15’s on 7 January 2024.

A registration form will then be emailed to you for completion.

Please be advised all children interested in participating must have completed this season’s Junior Activities Competition Skills Evaluation (Ocean Swim) which we have been focusing on the past two weekends.

**SPECIFICS**

**Date**: Sunday, 7th January 2024

**Time**: 09.00 sharp. Races are gender specific and are limited to a maximum of 20 entrants per group

**Cost**: $20.00 per competitor (Includes a Sausage sandwich and drink)

**On the day**: Marshalling at 8.30am for a 9.00am start with 2 water areas in operation.

**Format: Under 8’s:**

* 5X Wade Races

**Under 9 to Under 12: Water area 1**

* Race 1: Split board/Surf race (Combined points)
* Race 2: Board
* Race 3: Iron (Under 9’s will do board in place of Iron)
* Race 4: Surf
* Race 5: Board (M shape)

**Under 13 to Under 15: Water Area 2**

Black Head Fast 5's - Carnival for Competitors U8 through to U15's.

Black Head Fast 5's : 07 January 2024

**Where:** Meet at the clubhouse lawn

**When:** Sunday 23 October at 9:15 for a 9.30 start

Nippers begins this Sunday 23 October at 9.30. Please arrive by 9.15 so we can be organised to start on time. Please note: 

* Nippers must always be accompanied by a parent/carer (they are unable to be left) 
* Please have your child wearing their pinkie and bring their cap with them – once we mark them as present they put on their cap and this signifies they are under our watch. Please do not leave without having their name marked back off again – at which point they remove their cap. 
* Upon arrival Nippers can line up on the surf club lawn with their Age Group 
* Please remember to apply sun protection for your Nipper. A long sleeve rashie may be worn under the pinkie if you feel it is necessary. 
* Please bring a water bottle.

This year a number of executives are not seeking re-election so we implore members to look at what they may be able to contribute. Full training and support will be provided, as well as a handover from previous executive members.

We want your input into who should win the overall club awards for Season 2021-2022.

Winners can be past winners, new members, patrolling members, exec, associate members, nippers, nipper parents or life members. 

Generally, we want to see who has helped you be involved in the club, who has gone above-and-beyond to help our community and who you feel has helped contribute to our team.

We are happy for multiple names & nominations in each category and we really appreciate your input. Please let us know why you are nominating that person. We are happy if you would like to nominate in just one category, or all of them.

1.  ***The Doug Ferguson Memorial - Club Person of the Year*** This award is for an overall Contribution to the club. It can be a male or female. It is the top club award. 
2. ***Male Club Member of the Year*** This award is for the male club member who assists greatly in many areas of the club. 
3. ***Female Club Member of the Year*** This award is for the female club member who assists greatly in many areas of the club. 
4. ***Jeff Vandenburgh Memorial*** Junior Club Member of the Year - This award is for a Cadet Member who contributes in many areas of the club. Ideally they would be patrolling, assisting with fundraising and Junior Activities. They should have an SRC or Bronze Medallion and aged from 13-18. 
5. ***Patrol Member of the Year*** Patrol Member of the year is the person who is regularly seeking to increase their contributions to patrols by upskilling, taking on new tasks, being reliable and leading the way. 
6. ***Grant Armstrong Memorial Volunteer of the Year*** While the whole club is volunteer driven, the Volunteer of the Year is somebody who contributes to the club in a variety of ways- patrolling or running the bar, cleaning, BBQ'ing or running Nipper Groups.
7. ***Nipper of the Year*** This award is for a senior nipper who has competed in carnivals, participated consistently each Sunday and demonstrated to other nippers the attitude, sportsmanship, teamwork and positive attitude that we value at TOB.  
8. ***Branch Awards*** Branch Awards are numerous & range from areas such as Lifesaving, Administration, Training & Competition. If you have any people you wish to put forward for branch awards please feel free to mention names & categories. A﻿ll Club Members & Nippers are invited to attend and celebrate a fantastic season at Taree Old Bar Surf Club, at our annual Presentation Day.

The afternoon is for ALL members including Nippers (and Nipper families) senior club members and patrollers.

All Nippers will be awarded their age group participation certificate and a little something special. But who will be awarded Age Champions? You'll have to attend and join in on the fun to find out!

Our Senior club members, volunteers and patrolling teams will have their awards and acknowledgements following the nipper session.

Whole Club Presentation Day

We are calling on nominations to fill a casual vacancy on our executive board. 

Due to the resignation of our Current VP Jay Steel, and in line with our constitution, the executive can appoint a member interested in the role until the AGM. To keep things transparent- we are asking that any interested members please advise us if they are interested in the position. 

Below is an overview of the role. Nominations need to be sent to the president email address ([president@tareeoldbarsurfclub.com.au](mailto:president@tareeoldbarsurfclub.com.au)) by 5pm on Friday 3 December. 

Our current exec would like to thank Jay for the last two years. Jay was always on hand to help, whether it be flooring our gym, selling the raffle tickets, patrolling with team 5, fixing the equipment and being a great sounding board on the exec. 

We are sad to see both he & Kahlina leave from both our patrolling ranks and the club. Both were reliable and strong patrolling team members and their three boys were the cutest extra patrol team members.  We wish you all nothing but the best in your new adventures.

Executive Vacancy - Vice President

**Where:** Taree Manning Aquatic Centre 

**When: Sunday 15 October from 10am to 12pm.** 

As you know, the Nippers need to be swim assessed before entering the ocean with us. 

You are welcome to bring along goggles and a wetsuit.

Your child MUST attend this session in order to complete their swim assessment and be able to participate in the 2023/24 Nippers program. A parent or guardian must also be present the entire time with their registered child/children.

By ensuring your child attends, the Pool Proficiency on **Sunday 15 October** will allow all our Nippers to be ready to go on our first official day this season. Allowing Age Managers more time to get to know their group and more time for our Nippers to be on the beach, playing games, learning new skills, but most importantly having fun with friends.

If you are unsure of the Age Group your child will fall into, please refer to the [Nippers](https://tareeoldbarsurfclub.com.au/nippers) page. Please do check if you are uncertain, as the Surf Lifesaving Age Groups are sorted a bit differently to usual. 

Please note that if you child struggles with the assessment - they can still do Nippers. It is simply so that we can be aware of those Nippers needing extra support (to ensure their safety in the ocean).

Nippers Pool Proficiency

Our club is excited to be holding another Bronze Medallion course for existing and
new members to our club.

If you are interested in being a part of this course and working towards your Bronze
Medallion Award please get in touch with our Director of Education via email

If you are not an existing member, you will need to become a probationary member
to be a part of this course.

There will be a meet and greet at the Surf Club on **Friday 20th October 2023 for you to initially attend for approx. 20 minutes between 4pm and 6pm.**

You will need to commit to 3 or 4 Saturdays during November and December for
training days. The actual dates may be adjusted based on student availability as well as availability of branch trainers and assessors.

### P﻿ool Proficiency Requirement

Nippers are required complete their pool proficiency **prior** to the first official day on the beach which is **Sunday 22 October.**
